In this book, the Dalai Lama spends a week with top Western scientists. You get the very best of both. I did not realise to what extent Buddhism should be called a psychology. Equally, science is moving in great strides, although still locked into the view the mind is in the brain. This is very current, just published, with the latest research. The Dalai Lama indicates he is open to the mind not being in the brain, but this topic is not pursued. It is also great to hear that science has finally figured that if you want to research the brain, it's a good idea to get subjective input from the folk whose brain you are poking into. Pure objective research is almost meaningless. So they have now started looking in the heads of folks who can control their minds - typically Buddhists of course.

In this book you get really great precise perspectives on the subject, and if you are interested in how to over come destructive emotions, it's a great book. For example, it can be physically measured that the act of cracking a smile, even if forced, changes the brain and will improve your feelings about yourself. Equally, meditation has been scientifically proven to improve the bodies immune system, and will make you physically healthier.
